Edwin J. Van Schaick, Sr., age 95 of Elkland passed away on Sunday, October 29, 2017 at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital in Wellsboro. Born July 25, 1922 in Woodhull, NY, he was the son of the late Lloyd and Edith (Matteson) Van Schaick. Ed served in the US Army in the 94th Infantry Division 3rd Army under Gen. George S. Patton and was in four major battles including the Battle of the Bulge. He worked as a supervisor for Elkland Leather Com. for 30 years. After it closed in 1974, he went to work for Metamora Products as personnel manager for 20 years, retiring in 1994. He was instrumental in the startup and organization of the company in Elkland. He was a life member of the 94th Infantry Division Association, NRA, American Legion, Potter County Anglers and Cowanesque Valley Anglers. Ed was an avid fly fisherman and spent many days on Pine Creek at Pine Creek Village near Gaines, where the family had a hunting camp for many years. He is survived by a son, Edwin J. Van Schaick, Jr. and wife Kathy of Victor, NY; a daughter, Betsy Olthof and husband, Alan of Elkland; three grandsons, Chris Van Schaick of Shortsville, NY, Craig Van Schaick of Pittsford, NY and Benjamin Paulhamus of Westfield; 7 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Annabelle (Skinner); a grandson, Brian Paulhamus; his brothers and their wives, Leon and Gretchen of Buffalo,, NY, Kenneth “Bill” and Amy of Elkland and Eugene and Ruth of Addison, NY; his sisters and their husbands, Olive and Kenneth Hilbolt of Elkland and Velma and Edward Fratarcangelo of Corning. Family will receive friends at Kenyon Funeral Home, 214 W. Main St., Elkland on Thursday, 6:00 – 8:00 PM. A funeral service will be held on Friday, 1:00 PM with Lt. Col. Alan “Bob” Goodrich officiating. Graveside service with military honors will be held at Highland Cemetery, Elkland on Sunday, 2:00 PM.
